What are the training requirements for a CNA in Indiana?
To become a certified nurse aide in Indiana you have to complete a CNA training program that is state approved and which has at least 30 hours of lecture and 75 hours of hands-on clinical teaching. To start working as a nurse aide in the state of Indiana, you must have successfully completed an approved nurse aide training program or you must start such a training program during your first sixty days of working as a nurse aide. If you pass the training and competency evaluation program but do not work in a nursing-related capacity for two consecutive years you must complete a new competency evaluation program. Approved nurse aide training programs consist of not less than thirty hours of classroom instruction and seventy-five hours of supervised hands-on practice.

Community colleges provide an excellent and affordable education for many students looking to improve their skills and find better employment opportunities. The nurse aide certification course offered at Ivy Tech Community College will give you the skills and knowledge to start working immediately after graduation in the health care field. This five credit course is approved by the Indiana State Department of Health and can be completed in one month of study. Nurse aide students are required to attend 48 hours of instruction along with 80 hours of clinical training.
During the first week you will attend mostly lecture sessions with clinical experiences taking place in the second and third week of the course. The final week is reserved for reviewing the concepts and skills along with taking the Indiana state examination. Applicants who are interested in this nurse aide program but would prefer a part-time version are allowed to complete the program in eight weeks instead of four. In order to be accepted into the nursing aide program you must be at least 16 years old. As a graduate of the program you will be entitled to take the Indiana State Department of Health certification exam and become a nursing assistant.
